Michael A. Dorelli

Michael Dorelli is a partner with Hoover Hull LLP. He practices in the areas of business litigation and professional liability defense. He is admitted to practice before all state and federal courts in Indiana, as well as before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit.

Mike has achieved the highest professional rating (AV®*) provided by Martindale Hubbell, and was selected for inclusion in the listing of Indiana Rising Stars®** for the years 2009 and 2011.

Professional Experience

  • Represents businesses and individuals in disputes involving contract performance and interpretation issues, trademark, copyright and trade secret infringement, unfair competition, interpretation and enforcement of non-competition covenants, business torts, including breach of fiduciary duty, fraud and defamation, disputes relating to corporate ownership and control, construction disputes, and employment-related disputes.
  • Represents attorneys and their firms in matters involving legal malpractice, disciplinary proceedings and related allegations.
  • Represents insurers in coverage litigation and related matters, including the defense of bad faith claims.

Education

Mike earned his B.S. degree in finance from the Indiana University Kelley School of Business-Bloomington (1994) and his J.D., magna cum laude, from the Indiana University School of Law-Indianapolis (1998). While in law school, Mike served as the Executive Managing Editor of the Indiana Law Review, and he interned with the Securities Division of the Indiana Secretary of State.

Representative Cases

  • Niswander v. Price, Waicukauski & Riley LLC, No. 1:08-cv-1325-WTL-DML, 2011 WL 2604842 (S.D. Ind. June 30, 2011) (professional liability; granting summary judgment in favor of defendants following a ruling barring plaintiffs’ from presenting expert testimony as to applicable standard of care, as plaintiffs would be unable to establish claim without such testimony).
  • Medical Assurance Co., Inc. v. Miller, 779 F. Supp. 2d 902 (S.D. Ind. 2011) (insurance coverage litigation; granting summary judgment to medical malpractice insurer and finding that insured’s breach of cooperation clause relieved insurer of duty to defend or indemnify in underlying suit).
